DAYTON: Library starts Around the World story hour

Now is the time to sign up for the Clyde W. Roddy Public Library’s Around the World story hour series, beginning Aug. 4. According to Brittany West, every Wednesday through Sept. 29, young readers will visit another country with stories and crafts. The schedule calls for the trip to begin in Texas, with stops in Cuba (Aug. 11), Peru (Aug. 18), Tanzania (Aug. 25), Scotland (Sept. 1), Denmark (Sept. 8), Pakistan (Sept. 15), Vietnam (Sept. 22) and Hawaii (Sept. 29). DAYTON: Scopes Festival today and Saturday

The 23rd annual Scopes Festival is today and Saturday at the Rhea County Courthouse. "One Hot Summer," the story of how the Scopes Trial came to Dayton, will be presented at 8 p.m. today and 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday. The play tells of the economic problems of the community, the problem of a hostile reporter and the famous courtroom confrontation between William Jennings Bryan and Clarence Darrow.
