The Dade Kiwanis Duck Race on Sept. 26 at R-Haven Park was a big success in spite of mild rain. The winners were CBT Employees, $250, David Hoodenpyle, $500, and Brenda Gass $750.

The Spring Place Festival, on Highway 225 South in Murray County, will be Aug. 15. I hope to be there in search of the original courthouse built in Spring Place by my grandfather, Samuel Marshall, in the middle 1800s. I'll let you know what I find.

The Dade Historical Society met last Saturday on two projects. We move forward with two works in process, namely where to hold and who to teach genealogy classes.

The Dade Historical Society meeting will be Aug. 1 at 6 p.m. at Randy’s. Two important issues will be covered. The first will be the Web site for the “1981 Dade History Book,” and the second is training in genealogy. The society has an opportunity for an experienced teacher.
