On Saturday and Sunday, March 27-28, just over the Alabama line is the Siege at Bridgeport Civil War re-enactment. Located on a rail line and the Tennessee River, Bridgeport was an important supply link during the war and the siege occurred in April 1862. The re-enactment is one of the largest in the country. More on this event next week.

Break out the green and put on your Irish. It’s time to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. We start early at Stevarinos with the fourth annual party. Irish food will be served starting Saturday, and there’s a big party Saturday night with live music from Wrong to Wright.

The Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church is in the midst of its annual Lenten Fish Fry. The next four Fridays from 11:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., the church will offer a fried catfish dinner, accompanied with fries, beans, hushpuppies, cole slaw and dessert. The cost is $7. The church is located at 704 Holly.

It’s time to play soccer and, on Saturday at Lloyd Park from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., all youth ready to play can sign up.

The National Cornbread Festival has been named a top 20 event in the Southeast for April by the Southeast Tourism Society. The festival will be held April 24-25.

By the time this is read, I hope everyone has thawed out from the cold weather. I am ready for spring.

Although the South Pittsburg High School football team lost a heartbreaker last Friday, the Pirates should be commended for a great season and proud to be the state 1A runner-ups.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. As the Christmas season approaches, please remember the toy drive that the Fire Department goes out of their way to help families in need. Stevarinos is still collecting donations.

It’s hard to believe, but the holidays are upon us.

The big Halloween bash at Stevarinos will be Oct. 30, with cash prizes to be given away for the best three costumes.

The South Pittsburg Historical Society will have a benefit sale on Nov. 7.
