Cornerstone Church will have their eighth annual co-ed basketball clinic Sept. 26 at Lakeview/Fort Oglethrope High School gym for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade. Area college and high school coaches and players will be instructing the kids in how to pass, dribble, shoot and rebound. There is a $10 fee. On Sept. 15 the Fort Oglethorpe Downtown Development Authority will dedicate a new welcoming and information sign located at the intersection of Battlefield Parkway and Lafayette Road. There will also be a ribbon cutting ceremony at 2 p.m. The sign is a first project for the Downtown Development Authority. It will serve many purposes such as a welcoming sign for tourism, and it will also show upcoming events. We are very proud of the sign and have many people to thank. It is a beautiful sign. Be sure and look at it as you are coming to our city.

Hutcheson Medical Auxiliary will presents a basket affair and silent auction Sept. 15-16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the main lobby of the main campus. This is a great opportunity to win gifts such as wine baskets, candle baskets, golf baskets and many more. There will be a silent auction including a University of Georgia basket, prints, jewelry, tickets to a Georgia/Tennessee football game, rugs and more. All proceeds from the HMC Auxiliary fundraisers are designated for HMC for patient-related services.

It’s time to apply for the 2010 class of Leadership Catoosa. Under the direction of Tony Brown, an associate at Russ Blakely Associates, participants will receive an in-depth overview of Catoosa County, further develop their skills as community leaders and begin lasting relationships. The course will begin on Sept. 16 with a one-day retreat. Participants are required to attend the third Wednesday of each month through April, 2010. Graduation will be in June. Tuition is $495 per person.

The Men's Chorale of First Baptist Church of Ringgold will be singing at First Baptist Church, Fort Oglethorpe, on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. Under the direction of Herschel Spivey, a long time friend of First Baptist, this group of men sings the praises of God in a way that is very unique and heard only with a choir of male voices. First Baptist Church in Fort Oglethorpe announces a series of Sunday evening concerts to be held during the month of August. Kay King will be the first of the concert series beginning Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. Ms. King is a graduate of Carson-Newman College and currently serves as keyboardist for Freedom Fellowship Church in Cleveland, Tenn. Ron and Claudia Henderson will be at First Baptist Church on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. They have been music evangelists for more than 34 years, serving churches throughout the Southeast and Midwest.
