The U.S. Postal Service has added Eastlake and Highland Park post offices to the closure list. The post office located on E. 34th Street will be one of four local community post offices targeted for closure. Eastlake Neighborhood Association president Lora Salter has been circulating a petition to keep the post office open. Local postal workers union 192 will hold a town hall meeting at Temple Baptist Church, located at 3204 Clio Ave., on Oct. 1 at 5 p.m. For more information, contact local APW 192 at 499-3703.

Turn off the TV during family meals. Research has shown that when you turn off the TV during dinner or mealtimes, children are more likely to eat the more nutritional food items that are on their plate than more fatty foods when television is on.

On Sept. 12, 290 community members, guest, local agencies and organizations participated in the Calvin Donaldson Community Gala hosted by Commissioner Warren Mackey and City Councilman Manny Rico and featured activities, food and entertainment, provided by local Latin band Tropical Swing.

On Sept. 12, from 1 to 5 p.m., County Commissioner Warren Mackey, City Councilman Manuel Rico and School Board Representative George Ricks will host the Calvin Donaldson Community Gala, located at 927 W. 37th St. in Alton Park. The purpose is to enhance the relationship between the school and the community and to showcase the campus and community garden in a fun, family-oriented event. This free event will offer activities and games that will engage all ages and much more. Greg's Southern Soul will cater and Latin band Tropical Swing will entertain with salsa lessons and a limbo contest.

The Eastside Weed and Seed program, in partnership with the Hamilton County Health Department's Harriet Tubman Express, will host a forum on teen pregnancy in Chattanooga on Sept. 3 from 5 to 7:00 p.m. at the Carver Center in East Chattanooga. Radio personalities Donna L. and Norie of Power 94 will facilitate the listening forum on the issue.
