Wear white and support Haiti May 5 atop Signal Mountain

Tickets are $40 per person or $75 per couple. The ticket price includes admission, food and a drink ticket. More drinks will be available for purchase. To buy tickets call 886-4514.

The White Hot for Haiti fundraiser May 5 inside Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club will bring the atmosphere of the Caribbean to the mountain as attendees help support a school in Petite Riviere de Nippes, Haiti.

The slogan for the event is “Wear only white, Oh what a night.” Heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, a raffle, live and silent auction will take place during the event from 7-11:30 p.m. All proceeds will be sent to St. Antoine School.

“It’s fun because it is on the mountain, and taxis will be available to take people home,” said American Haitian Foundation board member Betty Miles, of Signal Mountain. “It’s open to everyone.”

Miles said the American Haitian Foundation on Signal Mountain relies on support from individuals to support students in Haiti. The AHF began building St. Antoine School in 1992 and dedicated it in 1998. The school now enrolls 800 children and employs 80 staff members.

“We are trying to build a better future for Haiti through education,” said Miles. “Every year we have to raise $180,000 for education, books, uniforms and a daily hot meal. We want to help Haitians become sustainable in their community.”

She said the White Hot for Haiti fundraising goal is between $10,000 and $15,000.

Miles said many donors will make the silent and live auction spectacular with many great items to bid on.

The silent auction includes white water rafting trips, a Tennessee Aquarium behind-the-scenes trip, jewelry, paddle boarding lessons, Lookouts box seat tickets, a downtown YMCA three-month membership, photography lessons from Tom and Pat Corey Nature Photography, Blue Moon Cruises into the Tennessee River Gorge and a Titanic coffee table book signed by Bob Ballard.

In the live auction spectators can bid on an overnight stay in Buckhead, diamond-studded earrings and an appetizer party featuring chef Andrew Byrd. A raffle will also take place where people can purchase tickets to win a diamond necklace or diamond earrings.
