ROSSVILLE: Lunch program a huge success

A combined effort between the Chattanooga Area Food Bank, Walker County Teen Resource Center, City of Rossville and Walker County Schools to feed children during their summer vacation has been a success.

The Rossville Area Lunch Program has provided more than 8,000 lunches and will exceed 9,000 lunches before the program ends on Aug. 6, according to Brenda Noblitt, the coordinator of distribution for the program.

“More than 44 community volunteers have worked tirelessly to distribute the lunches five days a week and the children have been an appreciative and enthusiastic group,” Noblitt said.

Employees of the Primary Health Care Center in Rossville have provided weekly health programs for the kids at the Rossville Athletic Center.

A $50,000 grant to pay for the program was obtained though Conagra.

But there is no guarantee that the grant would be obtained for 2011, Noblitt said.

“But we look forward to bigger and better things next summer,” she said.

Glad to hear the old home town is still looking out for kids.
