ST. ELMO: Rico against closing police station

Councilman Manny Rico, the Chattanooga City Councilman representing St. Elmo, has gone on record with his opposition to closing the police precinct here.

At the Sept. 14 meeting of the Community Association of Historic St. Elmo, Councilman Rico was asked for his opinion on the recent announcement by Mayor Littlefield that he would propose in the 2010 budget to close the St. Elmo precinct, along with two others, in order to save approximately $30,000. Councilman Rico informed the gathering that he will support keeping the precinct open, because that was clearly the desire of residents. He indicated that a number of residents have contacted his office, but encouraged those at the CAHSE meeting to contact other council members, because his vote has already been decided.
