ALTON PARK: Families encouraged to turn off TV

Turn off the TV during family meals. Research has shown that when you turn off the TV during dinner or mealtimes, children are more likely to eat the more nutritional food items that are on their plate than more fatty foods when television is on.

Eating meals with your children and without television reduces the risk for obesity for your family and especially your children. Try to plan as often as possible to eat with your children. Use this time to talk with them and catch up. When we do, we are happier and healthier for it.
