After serving his entire teaching and administrative career at Sequoyah High School, Todd Jackson is walking the halls as the school principal this year.

“We are at 393 enrolled students,” said Jackson, who served as an assistant principal the last five years. “We’ve got students from Sale Creek Middle School, Soddy-Daisy Middle School, Loftis Middle School, Hixson Middle School, Red Bank Middle School, Signal Mountain Middle School, Orchard Knob and Dalewood too.”

Jackson said his first 15 years at Sequoyah High were spent instructing agriculture and biology courses. He also coached his first four years at Soddy-Daisy High School.

“The standalone school created an identity for our kids,” said Jackson. “This is our fifth year as a standalone high school.”

Jackson said Sequoyah High School stands out with its 12 different vocational programs.

“I think the best thing about Sequoyah is giving kids a choice,” said Jackson. “Once they graduate we have provided them with the academic background and marketable job skills to go to work too. They have the opportunity to get a well-paying job through learning skills at Sequoyah.”

Jackson said Sequoyah graduate Allen Layman now makes military flight simulators to teach pilots. He just returned from a business trip to Italy. He worked as a machinist for eight years before beginning his current job.

Jackson said Sequoyah graduate Nick Knight, a former Marine, now serves in a security team for dignitaries.

According to Jackson, former Sequoyah graduate Jim Swafford, owner of Swafford Landscaping, donated trees and shrubs to Sequoyah High School’s campus.

Jackson said he now has students that are the children of his former students at Sequoyah.
