OOLTEWAH: Mahaffey receives Elmer Duerst Award

Local Jostens representative Beth Mahaffey was awarded her company's 2009 Elmer Duerst Award. The award represents professionalism and dedication to serving schools. Beth and her husband Billy Joe reside here in Ooltewah.

The annual St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church's Blessing of the Animals will be Oct. 4 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. This will be a true family fun day with a petting zoo, pony rides and blow up toys for the children to enjoy in a very spiritual environment. There will also be an animal parade leading up to the blessing of animals. The entire Ooltewah community is invited, according to church organizers. For more information contact Joan Rose at 240-5248.

The Ooltewah football Owls are off Sept. 18 but will return home next week to face Maplewood.
