SIGNAL MOUNTAIN: Monster Bash next weekend

With many scheduled fall and Halloween festivals make this a safe and fun weekend!

There will be no Mountain Arts Community Center Coffeehouse this weekend. As of Monday, the building has been shut down. A raccoon community had taken up residence, and, to date, 15 raccoons have been removed from the ceiling areas.

The 2009 Bachman Chili Cookoff is on the calendar for Nov. 7, with cooking to begin at 9 a.m. Teams may register by mailing $50 to Bachman Community Center, 2815 Anderson Pike, Signal Mountain, TN, 37377. Space is limited for this annual event to crown the best chili on signal. Public sampling and voting will begin at 11 a.m.

The Monster Bash, a costume party to benefit the Mountain Education Foundation, will be Nov. 7, 8 p.m. until midnight, at the Signal Mountain Golf & Country Club. Tickets bought prior to Oct. 30 are $35 per person and may be purchased by calling the MEF office at 517-0772. Tickets will be $45 per person after Oct. 30.

Have you heard that rugby will now be competed in the Olympics? The Chattanooga Rugby Club (men's and women's) are recruiting for the upcoming spring season. Age and experience do not matter. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays, with matches played on Saturdays. Call Jeff for more information, 424-8749. Typically, basketball and wrestling skills translate to the men's game and cheerleading and gymnastics translate to the women's. Visit www.rugbymag.com for more information. Sunday on Signal holiday shopping event will be Nov. 14-15. This is an annual shopping extravaganza, with all the shops and business kicking off the Christmas season with specials and good cheer.
