Self-proclaimed “football/band mom” Erika Hogans has assembled an army of Signal Mountain High School leaders to collect items to benefit the local Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga.
Items will be collected at the school and at Pruett’s Signal Mountain Market through Oct. 30 as well as at the school’s final regular home football game Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. against Whitwell High School.
“It gives the kids an awareness of being involved in the community and when people are in need, it is up to us to step up,” said Hogans, who has organized the high school football players, cheerleaders and band members to host the event. “It just opens their awareness that they can be involved in a lot of people’s lives they don’t know about.”
The items needed at the collection include non-perishable food, household items such as Swiffer dusters and mops and hygiene products such as deodorant and toothpaste.
Signal Mountain High School’s band, cheerleaders and football players will host a collection to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Chattanooga Oct. 26-30. Due to weather, the Eagles football game has been rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m., at SMMHS, and will serve as the final collection. For more information visit the Signal Mountain Middle/High School Web site.
“We would really appreciate the community’s support, not just for the school, but for this cause in general,” said Hogans, an operating room and pediatric nurse at Erlanger hospital.
Hogans said she hopes the collection will be an annual effort and said she believes it is one that will be supported by Signal Mountain’s parents and students.
“It’s good to get our school and the community involved,” said senior cheerleader and homecoming queen Emily Queen.
