Ace set to host Christmas Place open house Nov. 1

While industrial-grade project people are shopping Ace Hardware for widgets, nuts or bolts, the more decor-minded set can step into the Ace Christmas Place, which is hosting an open house Nov. 1 from noon to 6 p.m.

“It’s probably the best-kept secret in Chattanooga,” said Joan Tidwell, home decor department head, “that there’s Christmas decor at a hardware store.”

The store’s garden and floral department is converted into a decorator’s dream world, with a forest of whimsical and traditional Christmas trees trimmed in the latest styles.

Woodland-themed trees have bird nests and thin twines of glittery twigs. More traditional trees are decorated with ribbon and doves.

Christmas buyer Darlene Glenn said a team of women scours showrooms in Atlanta every January for ideas.

“(Darlene) has an eye for all of this,” Tidwell said. “She’s excellent.”

Glenn said Chattanooga has a more traditional Christmas taste than some cities, but every Ace showroom utilizes a few edgy ideas, too.

The bubble lights, she said, are bigger this year than last year, as are artificial trees flocked with snow. One show tree is bright lime green and pink, perfect for a little girl’s room, Tidwell said.

Ace tree designers will help customers recreate the exact tree they admire at the store. In some cases the designers will even make home visits. Everything featured in the showrooms can be bought.

The East Brainerd store is known for its custom bows, Glenn said, popular for garland and wreaths.

Tidwell said Ace has everything a customer might need for holiday decorations, from trees, lights and wreath hooks to gift wrap and wreath boxes.

The open house will feature a one-day, 20 percent-off sale for Christmas items. Refreshments will be served.

The Chattanooga, East Brainerd, Hixson, Ooltewah and Cleveland stores will participate in the Christmas Place open house.

The East Brainerd store is located at 8164 E. Brainerd Road. For more information call 892-0112.

The Ooltewah store is located at 9231 Lee Highway. Call 238-6061.
