Sewer projects moving down the line

Tallent Construction will begin work on connecting sewer to Sandy Trails in Collegedale after being awarded the job with a low bid of $99,844, coming in nearly $50,000 under the highest of six bids received.

“This will connect to pipe already in the ground to recover our sunk costs,” City Manager Ted Rogers told commissioners before their unanimous vote to approve the project.

Completion time of the 1,480 feet of pipe will be relevant to the amount of rock and rain that is encountered.

Officials said pipes will be sized to allow for future development of the area which currently houses a number of duplexes.

The money for this project as well as sewer to the Mont Wynnfield subdivision is included in this year’s budget, according to Rogers, but there is not money for any other sewer projects this year.

“I continue to be amazed at roads and pipes,” he said. “The cost is enormous. We’re moving along, just maybe not as fast as some people want. We haven’t shut down and said no projects like they did a couple years ago.”

However, he did note that possible sewer projects next year will more than likely require taking on additional debt.
