EAST RIDGE: Fire department receives federal grant

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency has awarded $35,132 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program to The East Ridge Fire Department.

Nationally, the fiscal year 2008 AFG awards will provide approximately $500 million to fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations throughout the country.

“Responding to all emergencies requires the best equipment, training and management of resources are available to this nation’s firefighters,” said FEMA Regional Administrator Phil May. “FEMA is proud to help these first responders by offsetting the costs of new equipment, vehicles and training.”

The East Ridge grant is for rescue operations.
