Local residents of all ages are invited to celebrate the season, the community and the history of Signal Mountain at the Alexian Inn Night Fall event Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m.
Hosted by Alexian Community Life Department’s activity directors Deborah Smith and Marie Ross Eaves, the free event will feature refreshments and a visit from BJ the Clown and Noah’s Little Ark Petting Zoo. There will also be musical performances by Mountain Cove Bluegrass Band, Cumberland Band and Jericho Brass Band.
“This is a way for us to reach out to the community,” said Sena Bolton, director of marketing and sales at Alexian.
According to Bolton, a similar event hosted during the summer was quite a success.
“It’s a great way to have that inter-generational contact,” she said, pointing out that many locals often feel a void in the absence of family members who live far away.
“People are so transient now, you don’t have the opportunity to grow up in the same town as your grandparents,” said Bolton, specifying that Signal Mountain Middle/High School students have formed a particularly strong bond with Alexian residents since the students hosted a “Senior Prom” for them last spring.
“The (kids) are really interested in knowing them,” said Eaves. “There’s so much history.”
Alexian Inn Night Fall is Oct. 24 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Inn, 100 James Blvd. Admission is free. For more information visit the Alexian Village Web site.
Bolton said that the affection is reciprocated by the Alexian residents, who treasure spending time with younger visitors.
“”It’s a two-way street,” said Bolton. “To me (the relationship) is just a reflection of the community we have up here — the friendliness and openness.”
“Everybody’s just accepted,” added Eaves, lauding the diverse population of the people and stories that reside at Alexian.
