“Fiddler on the Roof,” the Tony award-winning musical, will be presented by the Chattanooga Christian High School Theater Department Nov. 5, 6, 7, 12, 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. in the CCS Fine Arts Center. Set in pre-revolutionary Russia, the story by Joseph Stein centers on the life of Tevye, husband, father and milkman who struggles with inevitable changes in life and culture, while embracing Jewish traditions which seem to hold their lives together. “Fiddler on the Roof,” which features familiar songs like “If I Were a Rich Man,” “Tradition,” “Matchmaker,” and “Sunrise, Sunset,” is based on the warm and humorous short stories of Yiddish writer Sholem Aleichem. Directed by Mary Catherine Schimpf, the show features 40 student singer/actors, with an orchestra comprised of students and other community musicians.
Tickets are $10 for all seats and are available for reservation at the school’s Web site, www.ccsk12.com, or you may call 423-265-6411, ext. 550 for more information. The musical theater productions at Chattanooga Christian are outstanding, so it’s nice to have such an opportunity right here in St. Elmo.
