Soddy-Daisy artist Evelyn Marie Williams will teach painting this fall to groups as well as individuals.
“(Students) like to come to the class because it’s fun and I’m so willing to share what I know,” said Williams. “This is not a class where you get graded. I try to encourage students to branch out.”
Williams said she is continuously trying to improve her own work by attending workshops regularly and practicing often. She has lately been painting silk scarves, creating polymer clay pendants and working on a series entitled “Scenes of a Native Land,” which depicts local geography before it was developed by modern society.
“I’m very eclectic. I love trying various paint applications and techniques and always want to learn more,” said Williams, who added that the “Native Land” series has been a bit of a challenge. “For me to do several pieces in a row is challenging to stay focused, but it is exciting. I’m having to use my imagination to kind of go back to nature.”

Williams’ latest pieces may be seen at Bill Shores Frames & Gallery on the North Shore, Wolftever Creek Gallery in Collegedale and Reflections Gallery & Framing on Lee Highway.
