Kandace Tanner is turning her hobby helping family and friends prepare for weddings and parties into a new business venture with the creation of A Moment Like This Decorating.

“I coordinated my daughter’s wedding and vendors were so overwhelming,” said Tanner. “After her wedding, I wanted to make it easier for the mother and bride and make prices extremely competitive.”

Tanner said she wanted to put her type A personality, detail-oriented skills to use in the decorating business.

She is in the process of renovating a showroom above her husband’s business, James Countertops, to showcase her decorations.

“I offer my passion and services to complete what the customer envisions,” said Tanner. “Vendors usually say what is your budget, but I am more interested in a personality profile and finding out the bride and groom’s favorite colors.”

A Moment Like This Decorating is at 7633 Dayton Pike and can be reached by visiting the company's Web site or calling 280-6919.

According to Tanner, pink and green are the popular colors for weddings, but she also likes black and white for a classy look.

Tanner said it is of utmost importance for the client to be relaxed when planning the event.

“I really love people,” said Tanner. “It’s really my heart. I want to offer something they can cherish and afford.”

Tanner said she contracts with 25 beauticians, caterers, a celebrity-style makeup artist and photographer Ann Phillips.

A Moment Like This Decorating also rents out decorations for people interested in doing their own event. The business has vintage and new pieces including colonnades, arches, silk flowers, candelabras, cylinder vases, mirrors, vines and ferns to make the full experience.

A Moment Like This Decorating has worked at a barn wedding at Sunrise Farms, at residential weddings and at Daisy Church of God events. Tanner said she hopes to decorate at church socials, company parties and weddings in the future.
