The Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe Basketball Tip Off Club is changing the date of the golf tournament fundraiser to Nov. 7. The event, previously set for Oct. 17, will still take place at the LaFayette Golf Club beginning at 9 a.m.

“With everyone still getting settled and so many people being out of town, we thought this date would fit better,” said Tip Off Club member and event organizer Rod Turner.

A portion of the $60 per golfer entry fee will go to benefit the girls and boys high school basketball teams. Coaches will use the money raised to help with expenses including camps, tournaments, equipment and more.

“We hope it works well for us,” Turner said of the first-time event. “In today’s tight economy, it’s a way for folks to have fun playing a sport and in turn help another sport.”

He jokingly promises there will be no rain Nov. 7. All skill levels are welcome to play for the cause. Golfers will play four-person select shot, which Turner said should be beneficial to any level player.

“We just want to have a great crowd and for everyone to have a good time,” he said. “It’s all about the kids.”
