Battlefield Baptist Church pastor David Crane is reaching out to teenagers and youth groups across Catoosa County through the Targeted Teens meeting Oct. 26 and 27.
“This event is something we’ve planned to do for some time,” Crane said. “With all the recent happenings with the LFO cheerleaders and their banners, we knew we needed to do it now.”
Each night of the event teens of all ages will meet at the church at 6:30 p.m. to hear from guest speaker and evangelist Joe Decker. The theme will focus on informing young people that they have and can play an active part in the world around them as Christians.
“I think often they feel like they don’t have a voice or don’t matter,” Crane said, “but these kids are the church of today not tomorrow.”
He added that 1 Peter 5:8 which reads, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,” is also part of the inspiration for the two-night event.
“We don't want the enemy to get a hold of our kids,” he said. “We want to act as wrong road prevention.”
Anyone is welcome to attend, but the event will be geared toward teenagers. If church members see a good response from the community, Targeted Teens could become an annual occurrence.
“We hope to stir up a lot of excitement,” Crane said. “We want our kids to hear God’s word, hear the gospel and challenge their hearts.”
