Continuing its initiative to help students graduate, Communities in Schools will host its 11th annual dinner and auction Nov. 23.
Set at The Colonnade, this year’s theme will invite guests and supporters to “Catch the Wave to Graduation.”
“We thought why not have a luau in November,” said CIS Executive Director Jayme Elliott. “It’s a great way to kick off the holidays.”
CIS is a nationwide nonprofit organization that works to keep kids in school and give all students the opportunities they need to help them graduate on time. Programs like Reading is Fundamental, Sight for Students, Parents as Teachers and many more are just a few of the steps CIS takes to reach out to students and the community.
“One of the initiatives I’m most proud of for our CIS is the Catoosa Performance Learning Center,” Elliot said. “Without this school we would not have made the strides toward increasing our graduation rate that we have today.”

The annual dinner and auction bring in a good portion of the funding for CIS thanks to ticket sales and auction items. Up for grabs this year are Coke products for a year supplied by Coca-Cola, a range from Roper Corporation, two tickets from Chattanooga to Orlando, Fla. from Allegiant Air and two passes to Disney World, just to name a few.
“Without this evening, we would not be able to make the huge impact on students that we do,” Elliot said. “This (fundraiser) makes us able to be there for students who might be on the edge of dropping out and making a life-changing decision that will be detrimental. We’re able to be here for them and we need to be.”
The Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School Hickey Dodgers will perform throughout the evening.
The silent auction begins at 6:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person or $300 for a table that seats eight. Elliot said they would like to have all reservations made by Nov. 20, but for those last minute folks who really want to be a part, they will find a way to make it work.
