

Last week, a tribute to honor long-time Hixson resident and former sheriff, H. Q. Evatt, was at the Hamilton County Justice Building. During this event, Sheriff Evatt’s family, friends and co-workers attended for the unveiling of a bust of Mr. Evatt that was sculpted by artist Cessna Decosimo. Sheriff Evatt, who passed away last year, was the only sheriff to serve the residents of Hamilton County for a total of 42 years, with 22 of those years as sheriff.
The Big Ridge Elementary Annual Health Expo will be Nov. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. School families, the community and elected officials are invited to attend. Miss Tennessee Stefanie Wittler will be the featured guest. Admission will be free.
The Friends of Hixson group has announced the selection for the newest installation of public art in the city through the Art in the Neighborhood initiative. “Arise” by artist Andy Light was the top vote recipient, with more than 20,000 votes cast online and at more than 10 locations throughout Hixson. The sculpture will be moved into place at the intersection of Access Road and Hixson Pike in the coming weeks.
The Hixson Chapter of the Eastern Star is having a Quilt Show on Nov. 6 and 7. The show will be located at the former Sleep Center at Highland Plaza. Tickets are $5, and there will be a silent auction of an old Wedding Ring Pattern quilt. For more information, call Audeline Phillips at 875-0859.
