Riverview area shopkeepers will start the festive spirit with the 3rd annual Holiday Hoop-La Nov. 5-7.

Festivities at the Shops at Riverview begin Nov. 5 when store owners observe extended hours until 9 p.m., with cocktail parties, prizes and discounts.

“We want to show the city that this is the place to come,” said Cynthia Howell Stationery & Gifts owner Shelley Meredith.

A portion of the proceeds earned during the weekend will benefit the MCR Foundation for the Prevention of Eating Disorders.

“We liked what (the foundation) is about and they are local,” said Lula’s consignment store owner Lisa Adcock.

The power of all things local will remain a main focus throughout the weekend, as the Shops of Riverview highlight the strengths of their diverse neighborhood.

“Riverview is the best kept secret,” said Adcock, “we just want the secret out.”

The Hoop-La hosts emphasize that the area’s greatest assets are the free parking and the variety of goods and services, such as food, wine, clothes and monogramming, that are available within a few square blocks.

“We want people to come to Riverview for all their shopping needs,” said Meredith.

Meredith and her fellow hosts add that the event is a fun way to kick off the holiday shopping season or simply enjoy a good night out.

“It’s about customer appreciation,” said Adcock.
