Signal Mountain Social Services and the Mountain Business Association are joining forces to host a food drive as part of the upcoming Sunday on Signal event to be held Nov. 14 and 15.

“I think it’s important to show community togetherness and to help bring awareness of Signal Mountain Social Services and what they do and their needs,” said MBA vice president Gretchen Jones.

According to Mary Lee Ziebold, Signal Mountain Social Services is experiencing a heightened need this year for donations that will support the organization’s mission of providing relief for local families. Community members may address that need by dropping non-perishable food and hygiene items into Pruett’s Signal Mountain Market grocery carts that will be placed in front of local businesses on Nov. 14 and 15.

Though this is the first time the two organizations have teamed up for this particular function, all parties involved believe that the partnership is already a success.

“It’s important for us to tap into community resources,” said Ziebold. “This is another avenue to reach the community.”

J&S Shoes owner and MBA president Jeff Price agrees with Ziebold’s sentiment.

“It’s important for each community to help take care of each other,” said Price. “As businesses, we thought this would go hand in hand.”

Treehouse Kids & Co. owner Tiffany Quarfordt added that the needs of certain Signal Mountain residents are not always recognized by the general public.

“There’s a need that most people are not aware of,” said Quarfordt. “If you are going to be in a community, you should give back to the community.”
