Lookout Mountain, Ga., is participating in the Al Millard Memorial Stockings Full of Love campaign to collect Christmas contributions.
“We’re coming up with a bang,” Lookout Mountain Vice Mayor Dennis Eischeid said. “I think it’s going to be something great.”
Eischeid said city officials and Mayor Tommy Gifford have planned a parade of fire trucks and a decorated, 50-foot trailer to make the rounds in mountain neighborhoods, but instead of delivering gifts, this Santa train will be collecting gifts for qualified local families.
“They’ll know we’re coming because the lights will be flashing and the sirens will be going,” Eischeid said. “I think it’s a great way to bring alive the spirit of giving.”

The trailer will be outfitted with a Santa Claus, Christmas tree, wrapped gifts and music. Lookout Mountain firefighters and police will come to residents’ doors to collect toys, non-perishable food items and cash donations.
“All they have to do is leave their light on,” Eischeid said.
Families are welcome to take photographs of children with the traveling Santa.
Gifts will be distributed the first or second week of December at the Walker County Sheriff’s Office seasonal toy store at Oakwood Baptist Church in Chickamauga.
Stockings Full of Love has been a tradition in Walker County since 1989 when then-Sheriff Al Millard began the project. Last year Walker County received $50,000 in donations.
“I think it’s more important this year,” Eischeid said. “More people seem to have more needs.”
The collection parade is Nov. 15 for addresses north of Red Riding Hood Trail and Nov. 16 for addresses south of Red Riding Hood Trail. The train will make its rounds from 5 to 8 p.m. each night.
Citizens will soon receive a letter from the city detailing the process.
