Recycling will be revived in Collegedale July 7

Recycling will be available at Collegedale’s Public Works Department beginning July 7.

Volunteers are still being sought to help staff the facility.

“The more volunteers, the longer we can have it open,” said Public Works director Rodney Keeton.

At present, the bins will be accessible Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 4 p.m., and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.

However, Keeton said he does not have volunteers definitely committed for those hours as of yet.

Commissioner Larry Hanson, who began trying to revive the program last year, encouraged anyone willing to help out the program to leave their contact information at City Hall.

“I encourage all area residents to participate in this small but important means of conserving natural resources and reducing waste that goes to landfill,” Hanson said.

He encouraged residents to bring their tin, aluminum, No. 1 and No. 2 plastics, mixed paper and newsprint to the building on Sanborn Drive.

Keeton reminded that items must be clean and rinsed.
