Crystal Shirley says she expects to find better focus with the new location of Crystal Dawn Photography, which has just relocated from Ringgold, Ga., to Dayton Boulevard in Red Bank.

“It’s the perfect location,” said Shirley, whose business has bounced around the area for several months.

Shirley, a native of Soddy-Daisy, said the centrality of the Red Bank location prompted her latest professional move, as she can now be closer to her clients from Soddy-Daisy and Dayton. She said the fact that friend Victoria Underwood owned a free space next to Red Bank art hot spot The Gallery sealed the decision to relocate.

“(My clients) are good about following me, but now that I’m in my own space I plan on staying here for awhile,” said Shirley, who has shared workspace with other photographers in the past.

Shirley said her photo-journalism style keeps her on the move, however, as she prefers shooting on location for events such as weddings. But she does settle down every now and then to snap photos of babies and urges parents to capture their children’s lives through the lens.

“Photos are something you can keep forever,” said Shirley. “I think it’s very important for families.”

Shirley also specializes in studio sessions and is the photographer of choice for Chattanooga’s Ego Salon & Studio.

“She’s the only (photographer) that will touch (the salon),” said Ego owner Chante Newcomb, who said she has a great time working with Shirley. “She’s more personable than a lot of photographers out there.”
