Terry Wood Memorial Tournament raises funds to combat heart disease and stroke despite bad weather

DALTON, Ga. — The 2009 edition of the Terry Wood Memorial Tourney, originally scheduled for the first weekend of May, had to be postponed due to rain. But the wet weather didn't dampen the spirits of tournament organizers who worked out a plan to have the players finish the matches on their own time.

Although it took several weeks to get all the matches in and the tournament finally finished, almost $2,000 was raised to fight Heart Disease and Stroke in the community.

According to tournament director Randy Ellison, participants were determined to finish what they started. “The players were great to work with and get these matches scheduled. The weather didn't cooperate, but the players made up for it with their flexibility in scheduling matches to finish out the tournament.”

This years winners were, Gary Linn and David Hungerpillar in the Men's 4.0 division; Jim Elrod and Will Crowley in the Men's 3.5 division; Drena McPhail and Marina Smitherman in the Ladies 3.0 division; Amanda Bynum and Lindsey Miller in the Ladies 3.5 division; Patti Defore and Mandy Welborn in the Ladies 4.0 Division and B.J. Rowland in the Junior Division.
