East Ridge building 5-year parks plan

The city of East Ridge is partnering with Allen Engineering to devise a five-year plan for parks within the city so that it may qualify for more funding resources.

“To be eligible for grants in Tennessee we need to move quickly,” City Manager William Whitson told council members at their June 25 meeting.

The state requires such a plan for its various recreational grants, Whitson said. The plan will document existing facilities and identify future expansions.

“Why should we be sitting on the sidelines without the necessary requirements?” he asked.

Council members unanimously approved the transaction. Whitson reported that the $7,000 engineering fee was already negotiated down by agreeing to use city staff to help fill out the document.

Whitson said he would like to have it finished in time to apply for grants with August deadlines.
