The Red Bank Police Department will use a Justice Assistance Grant to outfit its Special Response Team with new equipment.
“Anything that involves high-risk entries they are trained and have special knowledge to handle,” said Red Bank Detective Sgt. Steve Dillard. “We want them to have the updated equipment that will save their lives if they encounter any problem.”
The $33,828 federal grant was awarded through the U. S. Justice Department and does not require matching funds from the city.
The money will be used to equip the Special Response Team with items including protective gear such as body armor.
“It’s tactical equipment that will help us deal with a high-risk situation,” Special Response Team supervisor Shane Dockery said.
The grant was awarded based on the instant reporting from the Red Bank Police Department to the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System. Dillard said the TIBRS system creates data on the types of calls the city responds to and its population.
“What’s important is that now when those officers deal with these dangerous situations they’re going to have updated equipment to protect them,” Dillard said.
