Signal Mountain youngsters are honing their hunting skills this season, learning patience and determination while spending quality time with their fathers.
“It’s really nice to be alone with my dad, and I don’t have to do any homework,” said Signal Mountain Middle School sixth-grader Sarah Grace Bennett, who hunted deer with her dad, Scott, on a day specifically reserved for youth hunting.
“I thought that I would throw up with excitement,” said Sarah Grace, who killed her first deer on her most recent trip.
Hunter Easterly and Will Stanley were among other fledgling hunters who made a kill that day.
“I was very excited because I shot my first deer and got to spend time with my dad and his dad,” said Will. “Dad teaches me how to have fun and respect the animals,” he added, emphasizing the importance of a clean shot.
Will’s mother, Melissa Stanley, said she was pleased with what her son accomplished while on his hunting trip.
“Will is providing for our family,” said Stanley, who is glad her son is learning how to be responsible with firearms.
All of the young hunters said they look forward to futures filled with more hunting trips with their fathers and grandfathers.
