The Center for Creative Arts invites the community to attend its Holiday Concert Dec. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium featuring the school’s middle school singers, women’s ensemble, male ensemble, choral union and the concert choir.

According to music instructor Neshawn Calloway, the students will be singing songs in celebration of a variety of December holidays, including everything from Christmas to Kwanzaa to Hanukkah.

“We have a wide variety of kids in our student body who celebrate different things,” said Calloway. “We try to touch on what touches everybody’s heart this time of year.”

Calloway said she and her students have been preparing for the concert since the beginning of the school year, practicing songs and learning about different cultures. She said that a handful of students will offer short explanations about the history and meaning of each holiday.

“By this time of year, they are really excited and ready to perform,” said Calloway.

The final song of the evening will be an all-inclusive tune from “The Polar Express” entitled “Believe.” Calloway said that it is a piece with which every member of the audience will be able to connect.

“We want to send everybody away with the idea that we should have something to believe in, just to believe in the magic of Christmas,” she said.
