Letter to the Editor

Editor,

I have grown up in the Lakesite/Soddy area and I must say I enjoy it. I am a resident of Port Royal and have a issue with the community wanting to spend $375,000 on a park when Soddy-Daisy has three parks already and Chester Frost is nearby. It’s not that far of a drive to the lake, to the SDPD park, or to the military park really.

I am especially concerned with the growing community, and the traffic on Hixson Pike past the last red light at Dallas Hollow Road. For one, the first hill is a blind hill. Second, everybody in this area complains about the issue turning in and out of Port Royal, Chimney Hills, Lakesite, etc. It is a major blind spot and I cannot count the number of times I’ve almost been hit leaving my home or returning. I’m concerned for my children’s safety and other residents.

Many people in this area have boats, trailers, and campers they’re hauling. And I’m worried about the motorcyclists. Who do you think would be hurt in a car vs motorcycle?

You basically have to pull out in the middle of the road to see what's coming. One of these days it will be too late for somone. I suggest some mirrors be put around the area to assist with traffic. Or maybe the hill could be bulldozed back. The speed traps do not work!

Seems like the Lakesite community would be more concerned with the residents’ safety vs. another park? I’d petition to spend that money toward public safety and our community schools before I’d ever vote in another park.

C. Abernathy,

Soddy-Daisy

Are you in favor of Lakesite’s proposal to build a park on Tennessee Valley Authority land across from Hunt Street?
