Hixson fitness fanatics Kevin and Kristen Harvey are amping up their workout services by offering brand new boot camps at their new facility, Ignite Fitness: Home of Scenic City Adventure Boot Camp.

“We felt like it was time to step it up a notch,” said Kevin Harvey, who has teamed with his wife to offer boot camps for women at local parks and random meeting spots for the past two years. “We were just sick of using other people’s stuff. It’s better to put your money into something you own.”

The Harveys’ new place of business off of Hamil Road is slated to officially open in early autumn and will house their women’s-only boot camps, group fitness classes and, their latest installation, men-specific boot camps.

“Men want abs too,” said Kevin Harvey.

Happy to answer the call to duty, the Harveys put together four-week sessions of men’s boot camp, complete with sandbag throwing, tire flipping and kettle ball swinging.

“This is a class where guys can be guys,” said Kevin Harvey, who has lately been training former male athletes interested in getting back to their high school and college weights. “It’s a fun P.E. class on steroids — minus the steroids.”

Though the new facility has yet to officially open its doors, boot camps for both men and women are currently being held and feature regular training sessions as well as nutrition seminars, supermarket tours and fitness assessments.

“It’s not just about coming to boot camp; it’s about encouraging responsibility,” said Kristen Harvey. “We give (campers) all the tools.”

The Harveys added that in the current economy, the group boot camps provide participants with an affordable way to stay fit.

“If I can give 10 people the same workout, it’s going to be better for everyone,” said Kevin Harvey. “You get twice the results in half the time at a quarter of the cost of personal training.”
